  • Omega Replica Globemaster

On Wednesday 18 March, Omega Replica De Ville hosted a highly attended event at Basel’s von Bartha art gallery where the brand unveiled the highlight of its new collection and the certification that makes it such a revolutionary timepiece. The Globemaster, with its iconic pie-pan dial and fluted bezel, is the world’s first Master Chronometer – it is the first mechanical timepiece to not only exceed the standards established by the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC) but also pass the stringent tests that are part of the certification process approved by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (Metas).

Omega announced that it would be working with Metas to develop the new certification process, which includes testing the watch and its movement in magnetic fields of 15,000 gauss, at a press conference in December of 2014. The unveiling of the eight criteria that a watch must pass in order to achieve Master Chronometer status is the follow-up to the news that Omega and Swatch Group CEO Nick Hayek shared with the public last year.

Stephen Urquhart, president of Omega, explained some of the brand’s major milestones and described how important innovation, implementation and industrialization are for Omega.

Alluding to the press conference Omega held in December, Mr Urquhart said: “Some of you might have been with us in Geneva in December where we announced a new certification process and a new quality standard for watchmaking in general and for Omega. Now we have finalized that whole process and to make this process really meaningful we have a watch that we decided to launch which will be the flagship of the Omega brand in the future.”

Omega Vice President of Product and Customer Service Jean-Claude Monachon presented the Metas certification process and described the Globemaster in more detail. He explained that the eight stars on the caseback of the watch not only signify eight of the most important precision records that Omega’s movements set in the 1940s and 1950s, they also represent the eight tests a watch must pass to become a Master Chronometer.

The symbolic use of these eight stars and the eight certification criteria show that Omega Replica Hour Vision aims to offer its customers only the best when it comes to precision, he said.

Following Mr Urquhart’s and Mr Monachon’s presentations, the guests were welcomed into an area with showcases displaying the vintage models that inspired the Globemaster and the full Globemaster collection. Writing on the walls surrounding the displays described the Globemaster timepieces and outlined the criteria a watch and its movement must pass in order to become certified as a Master Chronometer.

The exhibition also included an interactive station where guests could learn about the strength of the magnetic fields of objects they use on a daily basis and they could even measure the magnetic fields of their personal items, like cell phones, tablets, cameras or handbag clasps.

    The Globemaster

Created in the true spirit of Omega, the Globemaster houses the brand’s most advanced mechanical movement and features a design inspired by early Constellation models that represent horological expertise and Omega’s legacy of precision and outstanding performance. Each watch is certified through a series of independent tests – a revolutionary process that establishes a new quality standard in the watch industry.

Two design features that define the Globemaster are its dial, which is created in a style that watch collectors have long referred to as a pie-pan dial, and the “fluted” bezel, an element that has decorated several famous Constellation watches.

Omega’s history also influenced the Globemaster’s caseback. Representing the precision awards that the watchmaker received for the outstanding performance of its movements during the famous chronometer observatory trials in the 1940s and 1950s is a medallion stamped with an image of a cupola of an observatory where the precision competitions took place. Eight stars in the sky above the observatory symbolize the most important precision records that Replica Omega Seamaster set and, reflecting how the brand’s commitment to quality has endured, the stars also signify the eight Metas-certified criteria that a timepiece and its movement must pass in order to receive Master Chronometer status.

  • Replica Omega Speedmaster ’57 Co-Axial

There’s a thin line between 1957 and today. And as it turns out it goes just over the iconic Replica Omega Speedmaster.

Replica Omega SpeedmasterThe new Replica Omega Speedmaster ’57 (ref 331.10.42.51.01.002) is a subtle nod to the first ever Speedmaster, with iconic details like the straight lugs and broad arrows. Released at BaselWorld this year and perhaps my very favorite of the Speedmasters released. The historic nod combined with the modern in-house Co-Axial movement 9300 with silicon balance spring makes the Omega replica watches perfect for vintage lovers.

Replica Omega Speedmaster '57The 41,5 mm case features another nod to history, the cream almost gold colored index. The color is to reassemble the effect of aging, like it or not but its a spot on little touch to this historic fake Omega watch. You might also notice that the watch only has two sub dials instead of the usual three.

Replica Omega Speedmaster BackThrough the case-back is the beautiful Co-Axial movement 9300 with silicon balance spring visible. It’s the first in-house movement from Omega replica to incorporate a chronograph function. The sapphire case-back is perhaps not so historic, never the less a nice little feature.

  • Omega’s Replica 4 New Speedmaster “Dark Side of the Moon” Watches for 2015

All four of the new Speedmasters bear certain crucial similarities. They’re all certified chronometers. They all have a bicompax chronograph layout: the chronograph hours and minutes are in the 3-o’clock subdial, running seconds are at 9 o’clock and a date window is at 6. They all bear a tachymeter scale around the bezel. There are nonreflective sapphire crystals on the front and back.

Under the dial, all have Omega Replica Speedmaster Co-Axial caliber 9300: an automatic, 4-Hz movement that runs in 54 jewels. It has two serially mounted barrels for a 60-hour power reserve. Its balance spring is made of silicon and it has a column-wheel chronograph mechanism. There are Geneva waves on the movement and the screws, barrels and balance wheel have all been blackened to keep to the dress code.

The first of the new watches has an extra-demonstrative name: the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon “Black Black.” So nice they had to say it twice, the Black Black has a polished and brushed ceramic case and a matte black ceramic dial. The brushed hands are blackened, as are the applied indexes. The chronograph subdial hands as well as the indexes have black Super-LumiNova on them. On the bezel, the scale for the tachymeter is in black lacquer. The Black Black comes on a coated nylon fabric strap with a black ceramic clasp. Price: $12,000.

Next up is the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon “Pitch Back.” Its case is in polished black ceramic, while the ceramic bezel has been brushed for a different finish. It has matte black subdials with varnished hands. Its distinctive feature is the Super-LumiNova coating for its indexes and on its tachymeter scale. It has a black leather strap with ecru stitching and a ceramic folding clasp. Price: $12,000.

Omega Replica Hour Vision used its special proprietary alloy for the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon “Sedna Black.” The brushed black ceramic case is complemented by a bezel ring in 18-karat Sedna gold. Also adding that rosy accent to the Sedna Black are the applied Sedna gold indexes and hands. A laser ablation process was used to mark the text and graduations on the dial. A shade of “vintage” Super-LumiNova, not unlike that used on last year’s Omega Seamaster 300, coats the three center-mounted hands, the hour indexes, and the two dots at 12 o’clock. The Sedna Black comes on a black leather strap with a ceramic folding clasp. Price: $15,000.

Finally, there is the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon “Vintage Black.” The only watch in the set on a brown leather strap, the Vintage Black has brown hour indexes to match the “vintage” Super-LumiNova used on the hands and dial. The tachymeter scale is also embedded with the same color of luminous coating. It has a brushed ceramic case and a matte ceramic dial. The centrally mounted hands are blackened, while the subdial hands are brown. Price: $12,000.

All of these Dark Side of the Moon Replica Omega Ladymatic Watches have a case diameter of 44.25 mm and a case thickness of 16.14 mm. They are water resistant to 50 meters. And of course, all of their caseback rings bear the name “Dark Side of the Moon.”

  • The Omega Speedmaster White Side of the Moon: Capturing the brilliance of a full moon

First, there was the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon, and then Omega Replica Constellation Watches revealed its counterpart inspired by lunar dust, the Speedmaster Grey Side of the Moon. To round off the collection, OMEGA is proud to introduce yet another innovative timepiece inspired not by astronauts’ views of the Moon in space, but rather the radiance of the celestial body as seen from Earth: the OMEGA Speedmaster White Side of the Moon.

Underscoring the brand’s commitment to innovative creations and unique and advanced production processes, this eye-catching chronograph is the third in Omega’s Replica De Ville selection of solid ceramic timepieces. The white zirconium oxide ceramic dial is complemented by a brushed and polished 44.25 mm ceramic casebody made of the same brilliant material. The polished white ceramic bezel has a matt chromium nitride tachymeter scale. The polished ceramic pushers on the case function totally independently so there is no risk to the chronograph mechanisms as a result of inadvertent manipulation.

The box-form scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, treated with an anti-reflective coating on both sides, protects the dial with its 18K white gold “Moonwatch”-style hands and applied indexes. The central chronograph seconds hand, however, is rhodium-plated and stands out with a red tip – an unexpected dash of colour on the face of the timepiece. White Super-LumiNova coats the central hour, minute and chronograph seconds hands as well as the indexes and the two dots at 12 o’clock. Engraved just above the centre of the dial are “ZrO2” and, also in red, “Speedmaster”. There is a small white sub-dial at 3 o’clock that serves as a 60-minute and 12-hour recorder and a small second sub-dial can be found at 9 o’clock.

The Speedmaster White Side of the Moon is presented on a white leather strap with a white foldover clasp with grade 5 titanium frame-spring folders – the special ceramic clasp distinguishes this model from its siblings.

The polished white ceramic caseback, with its bevelled scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, features matt chromium nitride marks and is engraved with the name of the watch: “White Side of the Moon”. The Replica Omega Hour Vision Co-Axial calibre 9300, the first in-house Co-Axial movement to feature a chronograph function, is at the heart of this statement-making timepiece.

  • Introducing the Replica Omega Speedmaster “First Omega in Space”

The Replica Omega Speedmaster was launched in 1957, and it is still widely considered as one of the most iconic chronographs in the world of horology. This is no surprise, considering its association with NASA and the various space missions that it has partaken in.

Introducing the Replica Omega Speedmaster “First Omega in Space”

While the Replica Omega Speedmaster was officially flight qualified by NASA in 1965, its affiliation with outer space was forged two and a half years prior to that. Back then, in 1962, an astronaut named Walter “Wally” Schirra had worn his personal Speedmaster during the “Sigma 7” mission of the Mercury program.

In order to pay homage to this special milestone, cheap fake Omega watches has decided to create a Speedmaster that was inspired by the “pre-Professional” Speedmaster (Reference CK 2998) that Schirra had worn during the mission in 1962.

The Replica Omega Speedmaster "First Omega in Space".

While the watch was inspired by the “Pre-Professional” model, but there are some conspicuous differences between these two watches. One of the greatest differences would be the case, in which the Omega Speedmaster “First Omega in Space” features an 18k Sedna Gold case. The use of the 18k Sedna Gold also goes beyond the casing, as it includes the bezel, indices, as well as the hands of the watch as well. We thought that the combination of the Sedna Gold, together with the chocolate brown bezel, works incredibly well.

Next, the “First Omega in Space” features an opaline silver dial, instead of the usual matte black dial. The chocolate brown color that is featured in the bezel can also be found on the sub-dials, as well as the minute track on the watch dial. The combination provides a nice contrast for the Replica Omega Hour Vision watch, which makes it look aesthetically pleasing. Also, do note that the word “Professional” is omitted on this timepiece. The latter was only included in 1965, after NASA had officially certified it for all manned missions.

Finally, there are some special engravings that can be found on the caseback. While the “First Omega in Space” follows the use of the Seamaster emblem on the caseback, but the homage version also includes special engravings such as “THE FIRST OMEGA IN SPACE”, “OCTOBER 3, 1962′, and “NUMBERED EDITION No.”.

The "Moonwatch". Notice the inclusion of the word "Professional" on this one.

The watch, as per the other Speedmaster Professionals, is fitted with the ever-reliable Caliber 1861. The Omega replica watches for women also comes with a matching brown leather strap with beige stitching.

Like most Speedmaster fans, we thought that this is a nice addition to the Speedmaster family. However, this is produced in very limited quantity, so we would recommend grabbing this timepiece immediately if one is a die-hard fan of this collection. We reckon that this is going to be one of the more highly sought-after Speedmasters in the future.

  • Replica Omega Speedmaster Buyer’s Guide

Let’s start with the modern Omega Replica Speedmaster Professional though. A lot of questions we receive are about serial numbers, what details to pay attention to and how credible certain sellers are. With regards to the serial numbers, there are a couple of lists floating around on the internet, but we always use Roman Hartmann’s list of serial numbers. This includes the serial numbers of the very early Speedmaster watches, but also covers more recent models.

Although everyone has access to these overviews, strangely enough some sellers still get it wrong and mix the Speedmaster serial numbers with other Omega watches’ serial numbers (there is a difference!) and get you wrong production years.

Omega does not provide details on watches after 2000, so it becomes a bit difficult to find specific information or extract of the archives on those. However, in our opinion, a watch produced after 2000 should always come with box and papers. Check the serial number (Omega calls it movement number) in one of the lugs on the backside of the watch to the number on the warranty card. It should match at all times.

Another thing to pay attention to when it comes to modern Speedmasters is of course visible damage (if the watch has had some hard knocks, resulting in deep scratches or dings, imagine what type of blows the movement had to deal with). If so, always make sure to ask about its servicing / repair history. If possible, have the fake Omega watches for men tested for its accuracy (it will also show you in how much degrees the balance wheel rotates). If there is no service history or no way to check the performance of the Speedmaster, make sure that you will include the cost of a service in the final price you want to pay.

In case of a limited edition or special edition Speedmaster, get yourself familiar with the original packaging, booklets, certificates and possible accessories. Some limited editions came with a specific box or had a special book that was delivered together with the watch. However, besides a full set it is important to be convinced that it is the real deal and not a put-together watch. The supply of spare limited edition dial (such as the 2004 Japan Racing model or the 2003 Snoopy Award model) and case backs is staggering, so make sure to checkout the corresponding numbers on the certificates.

However, what surprised us most with the relatively modern Speedmasters is the fact that they some times come with wrong bracelets. Surely, they are delivered on original Omega bracelets but ones that either too new or too old. Early 1990s models with post-2000 bracelets are often on offer or modern Speedmasters with the famous reference 1171 bracelet. It doesn’t make sense and it is easy to identify by you as a buyer.

In case you remain to have doubts about a watch, it is better to look for another deal.

Perhaps the most important rule is very generic, but also very true: always buy the seller. Has he proven to be reliable in the past, does he has a lot of positive feedback?

Second, make sure you get yourself educated. With our backlog of 3 years of Speedy Tuesday articles we surely have some comparison and learning material on Fratello Watches, but also have a look at the classic articles written by the late Chuck Maddox (it is exactly today that he passed away 7 years ago but it still seems like yesterday). We also informed you about the Moonwatch Only book a while ago, which is up till date the best reference on the subject in print. It will give you a lot of detailed information on most reference numbers, from the very first CK2915-1 till modern / current Speedmaster watches.

Once you’ve found a nice vintage Speedmaster, always ask for the serial/movement-number (not to be confused with the caliber number). Omega has an extract of the archives service that is able to indicate whether the movement was indeed delivered in a certain case reference, in what year and to which country. We’ve often come across movements that were initially delivered in different Omega replica watches than the watch being offered. Especially the first Speedmaster movement, caliber 321, can have a dodgy history.

One common misunderstanding we often see has to do with the reference/case number. Omega used references like 105.003, 145.012 and 145.022. However, they also put a two-digit year indicated after this reference number, like 145.022-76. Now, a lot of people (still) think it indicates the exact production year. This is not the case! You won’t find a 145.022-75 or 145.022-77 for example. So it merely says something about the production year of the case back part. The serial/movement number is KEY to indicate and determine the exact production date. On older models, this number is only engraved in one of the bridges of the movement, not on the case back or in one of the lugs. So you will have to remove the case back or ask the seller to do this for you. Any dates mentioned on papers or warranty booklets do not indicate the actual production year, merely the date of the sale.

To make it a bit more complicated, some times the extract of the archives will show you a production date and delivery date that leaves quite some room in between. How come? The serial number has been engraved in one of the bridges of the movement at the time of assembly of that movement, not when the Replica Omega Classic watches was completely assembled and made ready for shipment. This way, it could happen that a movement wasn’t used immediately but was stocked for a certain period. In general, we still use the serial number as production year indicator despite the gap it may show in the extract of the archives.

When you are certain about the production year and have the correct reference number, it is time to identify and authenticate the Omega Speedmaster (Professional). Are all parts time-correct? Are they all genuine? What type of bracelet should be on there?

  • Monochrome Monday – Baselworld 2015: Omega Replica Speedmaster Moonwatch Apollo 13 Silver Snoopy Award

This is the one we (almost) predicted on our Monochrome-Watches blog. We were 90% sure that Omega Replica Hour Vision would come with a new edition of the Snoopy Speedmaster Professional. The one we imagined, however, is quite far from this new Omega Replica Speedmaster Moonwatch Apollo 13 Silver Snoopy Award ref. 311.32.42.30.04.003. Using the iconic Speedy Pro base, it brings not only a new dial but also several little details that will definitely create a proper collectible edition.

Before we go into what is new in this Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Apollo 13 Silver Snoopy Award, let’s first look at what hasn’t changed. The base of this limited edition (1.970 pieces) is THE classic Omega Speedmaster Professional a.k.a Moonwatch, meaning a 42mm chronograph made in both polished and brushed stainless steel, with a 3-counter layout and deploying the Omega Caliber 1861. Technically speaking, Omega has adhered to nearly the same (and totally superb) recipe since 1965. A Snoopy Award edition of the Speedmaster isn’t a novelty, as Omega introduced a first version (made in 5441 pieces) in 2003 – that showed a patch with Snoopy sketched in the sub-counter at 9 and a specific caseback.

For Baselworld 2015, Omega is coming with a new edition that celebrates the 45th Anniversary of the unfortunate Apollo 13 mission. Why Snoopy though? “On April 17, 1970, the world watched as the Apollo 13 Command Module landed in the Pacific Ocean after an unexpected crisis occurred 200,000 miles away from Earth. The mission was aborted and the astronauts completed a number of mid-course corrections in order to achieve the trajectory that would allow them to re-enter Earth’s atmosphere. Both the Apollo 13 crew members and Omega Replica Constellation received the Silver Snoopy Award (a NASA mascot) in recognition of its contributions to the entire Apollo program.”

The 2015 edition of the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Apollo 13 Silver Snoopy Award shows a black & white color scheme and several details that recall the space mission and the award. The dial shows a white background with black inscriptions and hands. The indexes are luminous white plots with top cavities filled with black varnish. The small-second sub-counter at 9 o’clock shows the NASA mascot Snoopy saying “Failure is not an option”.

Something else is also highly noticeable: on the 14 seconds scale starting from 0 is written “what could you do in 14 seconds?” – a reference to the length of the thrust the astronauts needed to achieve in order to set the module on its orbit. The bezel is also specific to this Apollo 13 Silver Snoopy Award edition. Even if it might look similar to the classic Moonwatch, this one is made of Polished black ceramic [ZrO2] with a Super-LumiNova tachymeter scale.

The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Apollo 13 Silver Snoopy Award also comes with a dedicated caseback. Protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal is a 925 silver medallion that resembles the pin that accompanied the Silver Snoopy Award that OMEGA received in 1970. The silver Snoopy is mounted on a plate of the same material and is surrounded by dark blue enamel.

Finally, the strap of this new Speedmaster Snoopy differs from the one found on the classic edition; this one has a black coated nylon fabric strap with white stitching, reinforced around the holes and featuring a foldover clasp. The Omega Replica Speedmaster Moonwatch Apollo 13 Silver Snoopy Award will be produced in a limited edition of 1,970 pieces with the reference 311.32.42.30.04.003. Price is to be revealed soon.
